About this event
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is acclaimed as one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Few gardens can match the sheer grandeur of the setting of Kirstenbosch, against the eastern slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain.
Kirstenbosch grows only indigenous South African plants. The Kirstenbosch estate covers 528 hectares and supports a diverse fynbos flora and natural forest. The cultivated garden (36 hectares) displays collections of South African plants, particularly those from the winter rainfall region of the country.
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden has been placed in the top 1% of ‘things to do’ all across the globe according to TripAdvisor!
The mission of Kirstenbosch and the National Botanic Gardens, now the South African National Biodiversity Institute, is to champion the exploration, conservation, sustainable use, appreciation, and enjoyment of South Africa’s exceptionally rich biodiversity for all South Africans.
Guest Speaker: Alice Notten, Environmental Interpretation Officer at Kirstenbosch. Ms. Notten, originally from Johannesburg, studied Botany and Zoology at University of Cape Town.
