Volunteers Help Prepare Canadensis Garden for Winter

October 20, 2026

A beautiful autumn morning provided the perfect setting for a productive volunteer workday at Canadensis Garden on Saturday, October 17.

Six dedicated participants rolled up their sleeves to help prepare the garden for the colder months ahead.

Working together, the team planted six elm trees, wrapped approximately eight young pine trees with jute for winter protection, cut back two perennial gardens and collected and emptied garbage bins.

After a busy morning, everyone enjoyed a well-earned picnic lunch from Di Rienzo’s.

A special thank you to volunteers Donna Conway, Christine McCaffrey and Cynthia Nuzzi, who joined Canadensis Board members Tommy Wingreen, Steve Wilson and Gerry Lajeunesse for the day’s activities.

Volunteer contributions like these play an important role in maintaining and developing Canadensis Garden while supporting our vision of creating a botanical garden in Canada’s capital.
