Growing Together at Ambleside 2

On a rainy August morning, Canadensis had the opportunity to visit the gardens at Ambleside 2 and see firsthand what this community has created together.

Canadensis Chair Gerry Lajeunesse visited with Norma Lamont, a former Canadensis Board member and current CBGS member, and Jim Young, who shared his knowledge of the gardens and introduced us to the work of the Ambleside Men’s Shed.

Canadensis has been happy to lend some support to the Ambleside community’s gardening efforts, making it especially rewarding to see the gardens in person.

Throughout the property, colourful and cascading plantings, a fountain, gathering spaces and delightful little surprises tucked among the greenery reflect the care and creativity that residents have brought to their shared green environment.

The Ambleside Men’s Shed is part of that community story as well. The group meets regularly to share skills and work on projects, and its members have built many of the pergolas and benches found throughout the gardens. Their work adds another dimension to a landscape that has clearly become much more than a collection of plants — it is a place for people to meet, relax and enjoy their surroundings.

A warm thank you to Norma and Jim for taking the time to show us around and share some of what makes the gardens — and the Ambleside community — so special.

Even in the rain, it was a lovely place to spend a morning.
